This page is the points-based engine: every assessment is a pair of earned and possible points. The course percentage is the combined total, so a 100-point exam outweighs a 10-point quiz. The sample rows are editable examples, not a class record.

Why 45/50 and 72/80 are both 90%

Each pair is 90% on its own. Together they are (45 + 72) / (50 + 80) × 100 = 90% still, because they happen to share the same ratio.
